Hummingbird Locations

Two of my favorite locations for viewing and photographing hummingbirds are in the Huachuca Mountains of southeastern Arizona.

Ash Canyon

Located 12 miles south of the city of Sierra Vista along Highway 92, there are several roads leading into the canyon. Ash Canyon Road is used to access the national forest land. However, the most popular birding spot in the canyon is Ash Canyon B&B accessed by Turkey Track Road. This single unit B&B has recorded 15 species of hummingbirds and the yard is open to birders and photographers. A donation of $5 is requested from day visitors. Visitors come not only for the hummingbirds. Many seed and suet feeders, as well as water features, attract a wide variety of birds. More information for Ash Canyon B&B can be found at http://AshCanyonBandB.com. To view bird images from Ash Canyon click here.

Miller Canyon

Miller Canyon Road is located 9 miles south of the city of Sierra Vista along Highway 92. Most of the two mile long gravel road traverses through national forest land and terminates at Beatty's Miller Canyon Guest Ranch and Apple Orchard. General birding is exceptional on the public lands before reaching Beatty's and along the trails beyond the guest ranch. But the six unit guest ranch is well known for its hummingbirds, having recorded 15 species. A free public viewing area is located near the entrance to Beatty's and two other viewing areas can be accessed for a $5 fee. More information for Beatty's can be found at http://users.wildblue.net/beattysguestranch/. To view bird images from Miller Canyon click here.
